DIABETIC DIVAS & SNAPPERS: CELEBS WHO IS DIABETIC AND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IT...{Photos}



The end of November is near, and I feel it only right to continue the support of Diabetes awareness. But did you know that there are many famous faces that is diabetics and like you and I, they have been supporting the awareness. Peep inside to see the Celebs that are diabetical {is what I call it}.

Many of the famous diabetics have not let their condition get in the way of  their success. But of course why would they. However I came across some famous face that I was now aware of them being diabetics, did you?

Angie Stone:

 The soul singer has teamed up with the Fearless African-Americans Connected and Empowered (F.A.C.E.) diabetes initiative to bring more awareness to the black community.



Salma Hayek:

The curvy actress suffered from gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy), which she claimed runs in her family. She told American Baby magazine

‘I had gestational diabetes, which I didn’t realize at first. It occurs in women who have high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. I didn’t know whether I was feeling bad because I was pregnant or whether something was seriously wrong. I was nauseated for nine months, which can be one of the symptoms.




Chaka Khan:



The Grammy-winning singer was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2011, a prognosis she decided to view as a "new beginning." 

She adopted a vegan diet and began exercising more frequently, and she lost 75 pounds in one year. The singer says her diabetes is now under control.



Vanessa Williams:



Since being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, the actress and her family have supported many diabetes charities.



Della Reese:



Actress and singer Della Reese was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after she blacked out alone at home and after experiencing dizziness during the taping of Touched by an Angel. She knew very little about the disease and claims there were no symptoms before the diagnosis, but later helped others learn about and manage the condition as a spokesman for the American Diabetes Association. 



Sherri Shepherd:


The View host, whose mother passed from the disease at age 41, drastically changed her diet and exercise regimen after her diagnosis with Type 2 diabetes. She lost 40 pounds and is outspoken about her experiences.


Aretha Franklin:


The Grammy Award-winning "Queen of Soul" is also a type 2 diabetic.




Halle Berry:



While filming 1989’s Living Dolls TV show, the actress went into a diabetic coma and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The Oscar-winning actress and now mother of two has been very candid about controlling her diabetes and works hard to donate her time to raise money for research for organizations such as the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Berry who the mother of two credits her youthful looks to years of taking care of herself:
 "Yes (I look after myself), but that's also because I've been a diabetic since I was 19. {I can relate to the year Berry was diagnosed}



Patti LaBelle: 



The singer has Type 2 diabetes. On her website, LaBelle recalls her diagnosis:

"I passed out on stage ... and the doctor came back to me and said, 'Did you know you were Type 2 diabetic?' and I said, 'I had no idea,'" states LaBelle, who has a family history of diabetes. She has since written healthy cookbooks, and she exercises regularly.



Sharon Stone:



The famous Hollywood actress who sizzled in films such as Basic Instinct and Assassins, also has Type 1 diabetes.

Tom Hanks:



In Oct. 2013, Hanks revealed he had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes after years of struggling with high blood sugar numbers." Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the disease, and some have speculated that Hanks's many dramatic weight fluctuations for various acting roles could have contributed to his illness.




Rubben  Studdard:


The American Idol season 2 champion was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes on an episode of The Biggest Loser in 2013.




Damon Dash:




The co-founder of Rocafella Records has been living with type 1 diabetes since he was young. Along with promoting the value of healthy habits, he's an advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Ghostface Killah:

Rapper of the group  Wu-Tang Clan,  is vocal about diabetes education, after having been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1996. Ghostface is resurrecting his diabetes education nonprofit organization, Making Diabetes Ghost, and is speaking out about knowing the symptoms and getting your health checked regularly. He hopes that others learn from his own cautionary tale, as he ignored the signs of diabetes.





Shawty Lo:



Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo found himself in serious trouble on Dec. 21 when it was reported that he had been hospitalized in 2011 due to complications related to his diabetes. Shawty Lo revealed that he’s been diabetic for more than a decade.
“I’m diabetic. I’ve been diabetic for 13years  I was in denial when I first became a diabetic because I wanted to stay the same. But when you learn how to cope with it, you deal with it. I’m trying to teach people who have the disease that you can live with it,” explained Shawty Lo

Phife Dawg:


The life of Phife Dawg with type 1 diabetes has been well documented. As a member of A Tribe Called Quest, he's been vocal about it, from candid interviews he's done about ignoring his diabetes management, going on dialysis, and receiving a kidney transplant, to his own lyrics referring to himself as the "Funky Diabetic," to Michael Rappaport's 2011 documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest
